    Bought this for our backyard. We have lots of flowers and are playing a garden. We compost so this was the perfect addition to our set up. We will use the rainwater collected for watering purposes. It’s better than our city water for flowers and vegetables. I didn’t want to get a heavy barrel or something that would rust. This is not heavy and the spigot allows for easy removal of water. Can also be hooked up to a hose. We put on a piece of plywood for added stability since our ground was a bit uneven.

     There are two sections on our community that has no irrigation. This barrel will be used for the watering to set the plantings. Regular rain barrels don’t work well for watering flowers. This has a bottom release to flood or empty. Also can hook a hose to the bottom one. There is also a nozzle for a hose and lever to release water. On top side it has a run off section also. This is the top of the line rain barrel. I am on a board and they were all amazed how nice this is. The color blend in with the bishes do not an eye sore for the community.

    The rainwater catchment system can be used in winter, but it is important to note that if the temperature drops below freezing, the collected water may freeze in the rain barrel. As long as the water doesn’t freeze, the product should work fine. However, we advise you to store it away when temperatures drop below freezing, as the plastic parts are prone to cracking in such conditions.

    Follow-up questions to my first question. When water accumulates in the catchment during the winter, does the system have the capability to keep the water from freezing in the winter? Is the catchment insulated to prevent the water from freezing? Also, if the water expands, does that mean the catchment cannot be filled to the top with water, but maybe only to three quarters full to account for water expansion during freezing temperatures?

    The product is designed to function properly as long as the water does not freeze. However, it does not have built-in capabilities to prevent the water from freezing during winter.
